The second International Seminar Asia-Latin America Studies is the result of a partnership between the Undergraduate Program in International Relations from the Catholic University of Brasilia, the Centre for Asia-Latin American Studies from the International Relations Institute of the University of Brasilia, with the support of the Japanese Embassy in Brazil.

About the invited lecturer
Shujiro URATA, Professor of the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University, Japan. Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University, USA. Specialized in International Economics and Development Economics and with a long working experience at several global institutions such as The Brookings Institution, The World Bank, in addition to professorship at Waseda University. Current research themes include: regional economic integration in Asia-Pacific, Japan’s Foreign Trade Policy, International trade, Foreign direct investment and Economic development. Among his major works and publications, are edited books entitled “Economic consequences of globalization”, published by Routledge, in 2012; and “Free trade agreements in the Asia-Pacific”, published by World Scientific in 2010. Member of several academic societies such as the East Asia Economic Association, Japanese Economic Association, and the Japan Society of International Economy, from which he was awarded the Kiyoshi Kojima Award in 2010. Member of the Council on Customs, Tariff, Foreign Exchange and other Transactions of the Ministry of Finance, Japan.
